Key Dates & Rarities
There is a certain segment in the rare coin market that is largely overlooked my most participants, yet it has often provided those who pursue it tremendous rates-of-return on their initial investment. Proof of this statement is documented by many of the auctions that take place nowadays. We are talking about a segment consisting of coins that are critically important to the field of numismatics. These same coins are pivotal within the denominational series they represent. We are, in fact, talking about "key date" coins.
If purchased at competitive market levels, "key date" coins offer the following advantages:
- A proven record of profitability. Increasing demand for a decreasing supply
Liquidity. An eager marketplace for rarity.
Competitive bidding at public auctions.
The tax advantages and benefits of privacy.
Substantial wealth in small, portable sonically sealed cases.
Affordability. Most investors can take advantage of owning "key date" coins.
Increasing value even with a stable or decreasing bullion market.
Conversely, "key date" coins have one disadvantage: A lack of available supply. There aren't enough coins to accommodate every investor.
Here is a list of Key Date Coins recently published by Collector's Universe, otherwise known as www.pcgs.com. (or you can go there by clicking this link: http://www.pcgs.com/prices/frame.chtml?type=coinindex&filename=PCGS3000Indexlist
